Like all forms of art, there has to be a driving force behind every artist. It’s that certain intangible that makes us go the extra effort. A reason, a want, a desire. Whatever that unexplainable power is, I can only call it like I see it - insecurity.
Is that to say that all artists are insecure? We can have a discussion going back and forth about how everyone has a sense of insecurity, but are musicians more prone to insecurity? Are musicians the most insecure individuals out there?
Not necessarily, but there’s no denying that all artists are insecure; whether you’re a sketch artist, Broadway actor, fashion designer, architect - this is not just singling out musicians alone.
Think of this as a discover yourself outline - an enlightenment of sorts.
With that being said, an artist’s music is a reflection of their thoughts, ideas, and feelings. It’s a self-assurance pamphlet that sheds light into their dark souls. Every musician has a dark soul somewhere within themselves, that is why they’re into creating their own music in the first place. It’s an expression, a call, a cry. They want to escape themselves and explain what’s closest to them.
That’s insecurity. Not sure of self, uncertainty, doubt. That’s music!
Insecurity is inspiration.

hmmm that’s interesting concept. Never thought of it in that sense. Great read MKS!
But how would you explain music consisting of bragging and boasting?
